RACE 1: Titahi Bay got beaten in the first row of the day by Whale beach, so that brought the score back to 2-2, very flat conditions but still a good wind blowing .
Race 2 : Whale beach & Great Britain had words on the beach at the start as the crews were quite close ( The Whale beach boys were apparently in a bit of a hole and moved over ) they clashed oars out of the start and whale beach protested the start ( from the web it seemed they stopped rowing ? weren't moving far at all ? ) so Titahi rowed effectively unchallenged throughout the race, so now 3 -2 to NZ
Race 3 : Titahi won the third race to make it now a very difficult 4 - 2 to NZ ( 3 races to go Friday ) that puts Whale beach boys in the difficult position of having to win all 3 to take the series !
GB came 2 x 3rds & 1 x 4th
In Development U23's even more drama, Dee Why won the first to have the result dissolved ? when there was some drama about both crews heading to the same buoy ? ( not sure of the exact confusion but will find out more, they did switch the Buoys around the first day, 1st 2 races the crews ran off 5 & 6 then the last race they ran off 4 & 5, seems NZ went to 5 thinking it was theirs and Dee why also the dame buoy ? ) NZ Development crew Piha Pirates won the next two races, very very close 2nd race apparently. that makes it 3 - 2 to Piha Pirates NZ
same conditions for Friday unfortunately so another drag race forecast .

After the great weekends racing at the Mount ( Huge surf Saturday, after first round everything postponed into Sunday ) the conditions were pretty crap for the 1st Day of the international, barely a shore break 2 foot is lucky but screaming winds coming from everywhere , A very long course and the 5 crews lined up for the first out
RACE 1 : A Great out by Titahi Bay ( NZ ) and Whale beach ( AUS ) following closely, all crews battling the extremely strong winds, a hard fought contest heading back to the beach but NZ held out the Whale Beach Boys to cross first. The Great Britain boys who had raced all weekend against the other NZ Crews ( Senior racing all won by Piha A Crew ) didn't feature very well and was also beaten by both the U23 crews - The 2 x U23 Development crews of Dee Why ( AUS ) & Piha ( NZ ) had a great battle with Dee Why looking like that had nailed the first race heading on to the line when Piha Grabbed a small Wave from behind to push across just before the line to snatch the victory, NZ 1st & Development 1st in round one.
RACE 2 : Another Great Start by Titahi Bay with Whale beach chasing hard behind, Not much in the buoy turn as Titahi bay got around first, heading home the NZ Boys hit the turbo and grabbed Victory number 2 more convincingly this time and perhaps the Aussie boys took the gas off knowing they were not going to get there as the 2 Development colts crews came across in front of them , Dee Why turned the tables on Piha as Piha had pulled down a small runner which Dee Why appeared to miss but battling Dee Why worked their guts out to work away from behind to get across the little bump as it broke to charge in on Piha to snatch one back, The GB boys again crossed at the rear end of the field. NZ 2 & Development NZ 1 - AUS 1
RACE 3 : Whale Beach boys must have had some hard talking in the tent, they shot off the line in this one with the afterburners full noise. Grabbing a commanding lead with titahi chasing hard behind, GB Trailing at the rear as the two colts crews were also hammering it out for the days honours ? Whale beach turned first and headed for home, Titahi chased hard but the Whale beach boys weren't giving up the day empty handed, Whale beach across first with Titahi behind this time. Dee Why who turned first also hit the afterburners as they headed for home and the NZ Piha Boys must have emptied the gas tanks in the first two races as they finished this one well behind. GB Finished up in 4th in the last race to gain some respect.
NOTE : not sure GB racing 9 races the day before was such a great idea ? the next 2 event days results will show us a bit more of what they have got.
Also the two Colts U23 crews raced bloody well and at the buoy line and at the finish line these two crews aren't far behind the big boys at all ?
Fairly flat conditions for the rest of the week so it will be a show of Motors in each of the boats as to who's who in the Zoo ? I might not make Wednesdays racing but should make Friday ?
